Sabor Latino, or Spanish for Latin Flavor, will be held Oct. 13 at the McCamly Plaza Hotel in Battle Creek.(Photo: Courtesy photo)The two leaders of Voces, a local nonprofit, are hoping hundreds turn out on Friday, Oct. 13, for their fourth annualSabor Latino fundraiser. Voces serves the area’s 4,000 plus Latin Americanresidents and the larger community.

Voces’s executive director. “In addition to the food and music, we want people to understand that there’s diversity in the Battle Creek community and in the Latin community in general.”

Dunn said not everyone who lives in the Battle Creek area is from Mexico.

About 200 peopleattended last year’s festival.

There will be a silent auction at the event, with items including passes to any Western Michigan University home game andentry to the Tinsel Toes 5K race on Dec. 9.

Chef Rafael Vallejo, who is originally from Puerto Rico, is making tapas (finger food), empanadas, arroz on pollo (chicken and rice) for the event’s buffet.

“His food is amazing,” said Frein, Voces’s director of operations and outreach. “We’ve already done a testing.”Cost: $35 a ticket until noon Oct. 13;
