Les Dennis on an “explosive” Christmas on Coronation StreetChristmas Day on the famous cobbles will not be a quiet one, according to the Liverpool funnyman17:47, 23 DEC 2014Les Dennis currently playing Michael Rodwell in Coronation Street Get What’s On updates directly to your inbox+ SubscribeThank you for subscribing!Could not subscribe, try again laterInvalid EmailWith a bit of luck the only thing that’s going to disturb the peace in most homes on December 25 is the bang from the Christmas crackers.But it’s not going to be quite so calm in the Platt household.”Christmas Day is explosive,” beams Les Dennis.And he should know because he’s slap bang in the thick of it.The Liverpool actor and funny man took up residence on the Street at the beginning of this year, playing Michael Rodwell, a small time and unsuccessful criminal who got caught trying to burgle Gail’s house.Now the love of Gail’s life he is very much a part of the dysfunctional family, and he reckons life is going be far from calm come the festive season.”The Kylie and David scenario is going to come to a massive head at Christmas,” reveals Les.”Kylie is still very much torn between her love for her family and her new and ever increasing addiction.”Christmas Day starts off well and Kylie wants to make it a perfect Christmas, she makes such an effort because she wants to keep the family together.”But she is off kilter, she’s wired, and she can’t help it.”To make matters worse: “It gets a little awkward for Michael because he thinks he has found his long lost son but he hasn’t.”It’s lovely though,” laughs Les, 61. “People keep coming up to me in the street and saying ‘he’s not your son, you know’, and I say, ‘No, I know that’.”But it’s embarrassing because ‘Gavin’ is having to deal with Michael asking him what he is doing for Christmas and I think ‘Gavin’ wants to tell him he isn’t his son but now can’t because he is aware of Michael’s serious heart condition!”Gail and Michael in Coronation Street (C) ITV PlcIt’s drama with a capital D ‘and when little Max asks why his mum has gone and whether it’s because of anything he’s done, it will break your heart’.But as always there are laughs and a little love at Yuletide.”Gail thinks Michael has bought her a set of pans for Christmas but he hasn’t he has hidden all his little gifts inside.”The partnership of Michael and Gail, played by Helen Worth, has been hugely praised by critics and viewers with some suggesting they could become the next Jack and Vera which Les admits is a major compliment.
