Hotel SearchLas Vegas welcomed myriad hotels, attractions and outdoor pedestrian areas in 2014. With no new hotels or resorts set to open in 2015, development might not have quite the excitement in comparison, but as always in Vegas, there will be quite a bit of construction and some new openings worth noting.
Here is a preview of some of the most notable:
MGM Resorts Festival Grounds
Expected completion: May
MGM Resorts International will open a 49 acre festival and special events space on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue. music festival (featuring Taylor Swift and Metallica) across two weekends in May. After that event, MGM Resort’s Festival Grounds will continue to host several events each year.
When Caesars Palace’s nightclub, Pure, closed in May after 10 years of operation at the resort, little was known about what would take its place.
Hakkasan Group, the company that also operates Hakkasan Nightclub and Wet Republic at the MGM Grand, recently announced its plans to open Omnia, a new nightclub concept, in Pure’s place.
Omnia will span 75,000 square feet over several stories and include a rooftop, outdoor garden. The club’s technology is being touted by Hakkasan Group as one of the key features.
Fashion Show Mall
Expected completion: First quarter
The mall is already the largest retail destination on the Las Vegas Strip, but a redevelopment will include a 22,000 square foot addition that will make room for five additional dining spaces (three full service restaurants with outdoor dining terraces and two bistro size venues with outdoor plazas) and six free standing retail spaces. It will also nearly triple the size of the clothing store Zara, to 30,000 square feet.
The open area plaza will be redesigned to incorporate new lush landscaping and several trees to add shade.
JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort and Rampart Casino
Expected completion: End of 2015
For its 15 year anniversary, JW Marriott and Rampart Casino launched several renovation projects in 2013, which are being continued throughout this popular off Strip property in 2015.
The race and sports book will be enhanced with larger TVs, new carpet and a satellite betting station. A new Bonkerz Comedy Club and bingo room are being added to the property, and new menu items are expected at Shizen, the Japanese restaurant. Room renovations are also in the works and slated to include new bedding, headboards and carpet as well as updated paint and wallpaper and new bathroom features.
Las Vegas Premium Outlets North
Expected completion: May
This open air outlet mall, located between the Strip and downtown, is a popular destination for tourists who seek out bargain shopping at brand name retailers like Coach, Calvin Klein and Polo Ralph Lauren.
Construction on a 150,000 square foot expansion at the outlet mall began in May 2013 and, when it opens, there will be a parking garage expansion with 780 more spots and 34 more stores.
